Respect and Honor

EHOP latest Designs created this message. Do you believe a family thrives on respect and honor? Now wait a minute, what do you mean thrives? Well, according to a free online dictionary, to thrive means:

1. to make steady progress; prosper.

2. to grow vigorously; flourish.

How about the words respect and honor? Honor means to be held in high esteem to. Respect means

1. to pay proper attention to; not violate.

2. to show consideration for; treat courteously or kindly.

Interestingly, as I examined these words and their usage, I was reminded of 2 Bible verses in

Philippians 2:3-4. It says:

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better then yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of other

These 2 verses from Philippians are very appropriate to what we are learning today about showing respect and honor in our interaction with one another in the family. In truth, our attitude does affect  the outcome of the manner we interact with others.

Challenge

Now, applying to what we have learned today, have we showed respect and honor to our spouses lately? Or is it something we need to change? How about our relationship with our children? Respect to our spouses and children requires our active listening skills as well. When we listen attentively to their needs, we exhibit respect and how much we honor them because they matter to us. When we do not demand our spouses to do everything our way, rather leaving room for our spouses to express their creativity, shows how much we respect them. When we express our feelings to our spouses and how their actions affect us without avoiding confrontation, by communicating our thoughts appropriately. We show respect and honor through our thoughtfulness.

Are you finally convinced that a family does thrive on respect and honor? If you truly want to see positive change in your family, strive to build these two essential values into your daily interaction with your family members. I truly hope that what I’ve shared with you today will make a difference to you and your family. May you be truly blessed and be that agent of change for your family today!

From Ours to Yours,
